The Invisible Killer
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a deadly, colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. This gas is produced by the partial burning of various fuels, including wood, coal, charcoal, oil, kerosene, propane, and natural gas. Equipment powered by internal combustion engines such as cars, lawn mowers, portable generators and power washers also produce CO.
Install a Carbon Monoxide Detector
Install a carbon monoxide detector that meets the requirements of the UL 2034 safety standard. A carbon monoxide alarm is no substitute for proper use and upkeep of appliances that can produce CO. It is recommended that you install a carbon monoxide detector in the hallway near every separate sleeping area of the home. Make sure the detector cannot be blocked by furniture or draperies.
